On Internet Wars About Russia and the Ukraine – Poem № 16

Never judge a book by its cover
A whale by its blubber
A person by their lover
Never judge an article by its title

Your discernment is vital
This is digital warfare
And I don’t think it’s fair
To manipulate others

By saying they don’t care
Caring doesn’t have a face
No one deserves disgrace
Learning isn’t a race

Give it time
Truth reveals itself well
Instead of giving them hell
Like you’re under a spell

Take a breath
We must let others live
We must learn to forgive
The reality is

We are stressed
Feeling guilty and blessed
Feeling slightly obsessed
And deeply unimpressed

With my friends
The ones choosing to shame
The ones placing the blame
While others remain tame

They proclaim
That they are in the right
Using words in a fight
Where there’s bombs? It’s your plight

We are scared
Feeling so unprepared
Holding tongues though we care
Wishing more peace was there

Here we are
Fighting online with trolls
Taking numbers in polls
This morality controls

Us, it’s a test
Feeling tired and distressed
Feeling desperate for rest
Wishing you all the best

As we wait
For another update
May determine our fate
In this war we relate

Take that in
Know that shame will not win
Know that you cannot pin
Me down based on ideas

I am human
We all long for the same
Peace and someone to blame
He who shall not be named

He is Wrong
May the people stay strong
May we all get along
Hear my poem and song

We’re human
We’re tired
We’re wired for more
More freedom

More expression
More love at our core

This was written after my previous article received quite a bit of backlash and misunderstanding based on a provocative title.

The article itself though? Non-threatening, but the most offended couldn’t bring themselves to read it.

That says a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
